How Veolia builds textile knowledge to close loops – a hands-on approach

How do you ensure your team speaks the same language when it comes to textiles?

That was exactly the question the Veolia Waste Team asked when they set out to deepen their understanding of textile materials, fibre types and recycling challenges. Their goal? To help close loops with confidence.

Step 1: Tailor the training to your reality

Veolia didn’t settle for a generic overview. Instead, they opted for Ellie’s Introduction to Textiles Training, a 2.5-hour deep dive fully customised to their daily operations. Together, we mapped their touchpoints with textiles and selected relevant use cases, ensuring every part of the session felt familiar, practical and immediately applicable.

“Perfectly tailor-made and adapted to our needs,” shared one of the participants.

Step 2: Make it tangible

One of the key highlights was hands-on fibre discovery. Participants explored various textile fibres not just in theory, but through touch, sight and discussion. This tactile experience helped them better understand how fibre types influence recycling outcomes, costs and feasibility.

“The discovery (by touch and sight) of the different fibers was greatly appreciated.”

Step 3: Link knowledge to circular impact

The training walked participants through:

  • The linear and circular textile chains
  • An overview of common fibres and blends
  • Recycling processes: mechanical, thermo-mechanical and chemical
  • Key industry challenges and emerging trends

By the end of the session, the Veolia team had a solid knowledge base to engage with partners and suppliers, ask sharper questions and move one step closer to closing the textile loop.
